Volunteer Tutors in DetroitThere are volunteer opportunities in a Catholic high school and elementary school in Southwest Detroit.

Responsibilities may include: classroom teacher, supervision of a resource/tutoring center, building substitute and teacher support.

Southwest Solutions is a nationally recognized model of community building. Their goal is to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families in Southwest Detroit, helping those at the margins of society. Their programs are wide-ranging and include educational opportunities. Placement possibilities include:

Responsibilities may include tutoring in basic academic skills, preparing students to take the high school equivalency exam.

Early Childhood Teaching
Responsibilities may include teaching pre-school/Head Start classes, supporting teachers in these classrooms.

Earn and Learn Program
Responsibilities may include supporting and supervising 18-24 year old minority men who have been fundamentally disconnected from the workforce and educational systems (some formerly incarcerated) in occupational/vocational readiness and training, teaching math and English skills to prepare individuals for success with job-related programs.
